Press Release: Buddhist Heritage of India Photo Exhibition

The opening event of the Colors of India Mini-Festival of India, a photo exhibition on the Buddhist Heritage of India, was inaugurated on 15 May 2017 at the headquarters of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. The exhibition features the works of eminentphotographer Benoy Behl, who has photographed the key Buddhist monuments, artworks,and temples across India.

This photo exhibition holds the distinction of being the first ever foreign photoexhibition to be hosted at the prestigious CFLAC Photo Exhibition Hall. Indian EmbassyCharge d’Affaires Shri Amit Narang, CFLAC Vice-Chairman Guo Yunde, Vice-Chairman ofChina Photographer’s Association Ms Wang Yao, Dong Zhanshun, Director-General ofInternational Cooperation at CFLAC and Counsellor [Culture] Ms. Vanaja Thekkat presidedover the opening. Over 100 Chinese guests from different artistic disciplines, including about30 students attended the opening.

In his speech at the inauguration, Charge d’Affaires Shri Amit Narang remarked that BenoyBehl had made an important contribution to art and photography in India through his work.The photos in the exhibition covered important Buddhist sites across the length and breadthof India, and showed the importance and influence of Buddhism in India’s diverse fabric.CFLAC Vice-Chairman Guo Yunde referred to the impact of Buddhism, which had beenbrought from India to China, on the art and culture of China.

The Embassy of India, Beijing along with CFLAC and ICCR are the organizers of the photoexhibition, scheduled to run from 15-19 May 2017 in Beijing, and 22-26 May 2017 in Nanjing.A Film Festival [19-23 May in Beijing, 22-26 May in Nanjing] and Gala Performance [20 Mayin Beijing, 25 May in Nanjing] are the other elements of the Colors of India Mini-Festival ofIndia.
