A delegation of the Indian Army, led by Lt. Gen Ranbir Singh, AVSM, YSM, SM, ADC, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Northern Command, visited China on an official engagement from 7-10 January 2020.

During its visit, the delegation had meetings at Beijing, Chengdu and Urumqi.  On 7 January 2020, Lt. Gen. Ranbir Singh met with the Commander of PLA Army, Gen. Han Weiguo, in Beijing. On 8 January 2020, he visited Chengdu where he was accorded a ceremonial guard of honor at the Headquarters of the Western Theatre Command, followed by a meeting with General  Zhao Zongqi, the Cdr. of Western Theatre Command.  The delegation also visited a Special Operations Brigade at Chengdu, where they witnessed a counter terrorism drill by the Special Operations Brigade.

On the 9 January, Lt. Gen Ranbir Singh met Lt. Gen. Liu Wanlong, Commander of the Xinjiang Military Command at Urumqi and visited the 9 Engineer Regiment of PLA in the city. 

The visit of the delegation led by Lt. Gen. Ranbir Singh is the first high level military to military engagement of 2020 between India and China.  The delegation discussed a host of issues, includes border area management, improved bilateral military ties and defence cooperation activities as part of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary  of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and the People’s Republic of China. Both sides agreed to carry forward the directions of the leaders and maintain peace and tranquility at the border areas.  The talks were held in a free, frank and friendly manner.
