Visit of Senior Indian Diplomats to China
1. A 5-member delegation of senior Indian diplomats undertook a familiarization visit to China from 02-07 September, 2018. The visit was part of regular exchanges between Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. The Indian delegation was led by High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Shri Taranjit Singh Sandhu and comprised of Ambassador of India to Union of Myanmar Shri Vikram Misri, Ambassador of India to Afghanistan Shri Vinay Kumar, Ambassador of India to Kazakhstan Shri Prabhat Kumar and High Commissioner of India to Malaysia Shri Mridul Kumar. Earlier in 2016, a group of 3 senior Indian diplomats had visited China under this exchange programme.
2. The delegation visited three cities of Shanghai, Hefei and Beijing. On 03 September, the delegation visited China’s largest heavy-duty equipment manufacturer Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co. Ltd (ZPMC) and Shanghai Electric Corporation, a leader in energy sector. During the second leg of the visit, the delegation met with Mayor of Hefei Ms. Ling Yun and discussed issues related to urban development and management and prospects for cooperation between Hefei and India. They also visited iflyTEK company, a pioneer in Artificial Intelligence and speech recognition technology in China.
3. While in Beijing, the delegation called on Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Mr. Kong Xuanyou and discussed various aspects of India-China bilateral cooperation. They also met with Mr. Wu Jianghao， Director General of Asia Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both sides agreed to continue exchanges among diplomats of India and China. The delegation also met Chinese scholars at China Institute of International Studies, Central Party School and PLA National Defense University. The delegation visited Chinese companies like Sina Weibo and Baidu and interacted with the young Chinese employees.
